Description

She arrives at the centre of the forehead like a blessing already given. Cast in brass and finished in the warm burnish of temple gold, this maang tikka carries the full devotional grammar of South Indian temple jewellery. At its heart sits Goddess Lakshmi, rendered with the serene frontality that has characterised sacred iconography from Nagercoil to Thanjavur for centuries. The border is worked in the layered, stamped relief typical of traditional brass temple craft, where every petal and arch around the deity echoes the gopuram carvings that inspired the form. Pearl drops hang below the central medallion, their soft ivory weight a deliberate contrast to the oxidised warmth of the brass, echoing the way temple priests would adorn deity portraits with strands of real moti. At 2.8 inches tall and 0.9 inches wide (approximately 7.1 cm by 2.3 cm) and weighing a modest 8 grams, the piece carries visual authority without physical burden. Thread the chain through a centre parting for a festive saree look, whether silk Kanjivaram for a wedding or a handloom cotton for Navratri puja. It reads equally well above the draped pallav of a light chiffon lehenga for a mehendi evening. One size accommodates most, with an adjustable chain that sits comfortably across varied hair thicknesses. The brass construction resists daily knocks well; store away from moisture and the burnished finish will hold its temple-gold warmth over many seasons of devotional wear.
