Description

There are pieces that carry the memory of a courtyard at dusk, and this is one of them. The passa is a head ornament with roots deep in Mughal and Rajput court dress, worn at the side parting to cascade gently over the temple. This brass piece honours that lineage without pretension. The metal has been worked into the layered, pendant-drop silhouette characteristic of the classic passa form, its surface bearing the kind of considered detailing that recalls the ateliers of Jaipur, where karigar families have shaped brass and base metals into objects of genuine beauty for generations. At 52 grams, the piece has reassuring presence without becoming burdensome against the hair. The finish carries the warm, burnished tone that brass develops with careful craft, offering an antique-adjacent quality that suits the ornament's historical character. Worn with a silk chanderi dupatta at a mehendi or a sangeet, the passa transforms the simplest drape into something ceremonial. It works equally well with a contemporary raw-silk kurta set for a festive luncheon, where its restrained scale reads as quietly knowing rather than overtly bridal. Being free size, the passa clips or pins at the parting to suit most arrangements, from a low bun to a loosely braided plait. Brass ages gracefully with a dry cloth and occasional buffing, and at its price point it earns its place as a piece worn often and without anxiety.
