Description

A matha patti carries the weight of arrival, the quiet announcement that a woman has entered the room. Rooted in the bridal traditions of Rajasthan and the Mughal courts that shaped them, the matha patti is among the oldest of Indian head ornaments, worn as a chain that descends across the central parting to rest between the brows. This piece is crafted in brass, a metal with deep roots in ceremonial jewellery across North India, chosen here for its warm, antique-toned surface rather than any imitation of gold. The central pendant element, typical of the form, anchors a cascading chain structure that frames the face with deliberate geometry. The finish is oxidised or burnished to give the brass its characteristic old-world depth. At this price point, it speaks to those who want the ritual aesthetic without the weight of precious metal. For a full bridal or festive look, layer it over a deep-bordered Banarasi dupatta with a matching maang tikka. It works equally well with a structured embroidered lehenga blouse at a mehendi or sangeet, where it adds gravitas without overpowering statement earrings. The piece is offered in a single free size, as is standard for head jewellery of this silhouette, with the chain adjustable at the back to accommodate different head sizes comfortably. Brass is lightweight to wear for extended ceremonies, and the oxidised finish requires only a soft dry cloth to maintain its depth between occasions.
