Description

There is a particular grammar to Indian adornment that belongs entirely to the side of the face. The Passa is a head ornament rooted in the Mughal courts, worn at the temple or pinned into hair at the parting, where it trails its pendant weight beside the cheek. This brass piece follows that centuries-old silhouette: a central ornamental medallion from which a suspended drop descends in careful proportion. Brass, chosen here with intention, carries a warm antiqued tone that recalls the gold-toned pieces produced by karigars in Rajasthan and Lucknow, where the Passa tradition was most ardently refined. The surface work suggests layered motifs characteristic of lattice or floral carving, and the metal at sixty grams settles with satisfying presence without pulling uncomfortably at the hair. Wear it pinned into a low bun at a mehendi or nikah, where it catches the light against silk or tissue organza dupatta. It pairs equally well at a sangeet with heavily embellished ethnic wear, anchoring the look at the temple where the eye naturally travels. At sixty grams and free size in fit, the Passa is designed to be secured with a decorative pin or hook into the hair, requiring no alteration and no clasp adjustment. The brass finish is robust enough for an evening of celebration, and its warm tone sits equally well against deep jewel colours and ivory. A single piece; a complete statement.
