Description

There is a quietness to silver that gold rarely attempts. This teardrop maang tikka is worked in sterling silver, its pendant a gently elongated drop set with a deep blue stone at the centre, ringed by faceted crystal accents that catch the light without demanding it. The silhouette is restrained and classical, the kind of form that recurs across the maang tikkas of Rajasthan and Bengal alike, where the pendant hangs from a delicate adjustable chain designed to settle precisely at the hairline. Sterling silver, chosen here over gold, gives the piece a cooler, more contemporary register while remaining faithful to the tradition of fine metal jewellery for the forehead. The crystals are placed with a quiet symmetry around the central stone, and the finish throughout is smooth and polished rather than textured. At 5 grams, the piece carries no burden. The pendant measures approximately 10.7 cm in length and 1.5 cm in width, proportions that read as elegant rather than bold. Wear it with an ivory or deep teal chikankari kurta for a daytime ceremony, or pair it with a charcoal silk saree for an evening occasion where you want adornment that is present but not loud. The blue stone works particularly well against cold-toned silks and cotton voiles. The adjustable chain accommodates most head sizes comfortably, making fit effortless. The polished sterling silver is straightforward to maintain and suited to regular wear without fear of undue weight or fragility.
