Description

A headdress that thinks in silver light and borrowed moons. Polki, at its most democratic, travels beyond the ateliers of Jaipur in forms that honour the idiom without demanding its full ceremonial weight. This matha patti carries that spirit faithfully: uncut stone slices, set in the flat, foil-backed manner that defines Polki work, are mounted across a dual-strand brass framework that arches like a crescent across the centre parting. The brass, finished to a warm antique tone, holds each stone in open bezels so the light catches and scatters naturally, without the distraction of deep prong work. A border of small pearls, cream and quietly lustrous, traces the lower edge of both strands, adding a softness that recalls the pearl-trimmed jewellery of Bikaner's older bridal traditions. At eleven-point-two inches long and one inch wide (roughly 28.4 cm by 2.5 cm), and weighing forty-one grams, the piece has genuine presence without pulling uncomfortably at the hairline. Wear it with a heavily embroidered silk lehenga for a mehndi or sangeet, letting the pearl border echo the ivory thread-work of the dupatta. It sits with equal ease over a plain chanderi sari, where it becomes the single jewel the look needs. The free-size design fits most adult head measurements through an adjustable chain attachment at the base. The brass construction keeps the weight distributed evenly across the parting, and the finish resists tarnish well enough for seasonal, celebratory use.
