Description

A passa is architecture for the face, and this one earns its place at a bridal gathering. Set in brass and finished to echo the warmth of aged gold, this passa carries a full face of uncut Polki stones arranged in the layered, floral-cluster manner long associated with Rajasthani bridal craft. Polki, with its raw, foil-backed planes, holds light the way a cut stone never can: flatly, intimately, as if the light originates from within. The central body builds outward from a denser, jewelled core into finer lattice work along the edges, and each tier is held together by the kind of close, deliberate setting that Jaipur's stone-setters have refined across generations. Below the main panel, a string of pearl drops introduces the gentler grammar of ivory against the denser glitter above, softening a piece that might otherwise read as pure spectacle. The piece measures approximately 15.9 cm in height by 8.4 cm in width and weighs 70 grams, substantial enough to carry bridal ceremony but not so heavy as to feel burdensome across a long event. Worn pinned into a loosely gathered bun or anchored into a Rajasthani-style plait, it reads beautifully against a red or ivory silk lehenga at a wedding or sangeet. For a more contemporary paring, it works over a heavily embroidered anarkali at a mehendi gathering. The piece is free-sized and designed for universal fit at the temple. Brass construction means the base remains durable through a full day of wear.
