Description

There are maang tikkas that sit on the forehead, and then there are ones that command it. This piece draws from the Rajasthani Polki tradition, where uncut, foil-backed stones are set flush into a metal frame to catch light at every angle. Here, a deep red centre stone anchors the composition, surrounded by Polki-set elements that shimmer with the characteristic flat brilliance of the form. A pearl drop descends from the base, the way old Jaipur pieces always ended: with something soft to offset the stone's intensity. The frame is crafted in brass, finished to suggest the warmth of aged gold, and the setting follows the close, hand-fitted aesthetic of Jadau-adjacent work from the Rajputana belt. The piece measures approximately 5.2 inches (13.2 cm) in length and 1 inch (2.5 cm) in width, and weighs 17 grams, substantial enough to feel significant without pulling at the parting. Wear it with a deep burgundy or ivory silk lehenga for a wedding ceremony, where the red centre stone reads as intentional rather than incidental. It pairs equally well with a handwoven Banarasi saree in muted gold, allowing the Polki to do all the speaking. The tikka is free size, with an adjustable chain that suits most partings comfortably. The brass base holds its finish well against light wear, making this a piece that moves gracefully between festive occasions without requiring elaborate care.
