Description

A passa carries the memory of a court that knew how to adorn slowly. This piece is worked in brass, a metal long favoured in the ateliers of Rajasthan for its warm, gold-like register and its willingness to hold intricate surface detail without protest. The passa, traditionally a side-headpiece worn at the temple or tucked into a braid, arrives here in two colour ways: a deep emerald green and a rich ceremonial red, each suggesting the enamel-toned sensibility of Jaipur's colour traditions. The setting holds its chosen colour close, with the brass frame giving it structure and gravity. At roughly 2.5 cm in height, the piece is intimate rather than theatrical, and its 60-gram weight sits with quiet authority against the hair, neither pulling nor shifting once placed. Wear the red variant with a Benarasi silk lehenga for a wedding mehendi, where its warmth echoes the gold zari woven through the fabric. The green suits a tissue-silk saree at a festive gathering, offering a note of antique restraint against the sheen of the drape. The free-size construction means the passa slides and pins without adjustment, suitable for most hair thicknesses and styles. The brass finish is sealed to resist everyday tarnish, and the piece requires only a soft, dry cloth to maintain its surface lustre over time.
