Description

There are pieces that exist at the boundary between jewellery and architecture. The Passa is a head ornament drawn from the Mughal tradition of mathapatti adornment, where the ear and the temple meet in a cascade of hanging elements. Crafted in brass, this piece carries the warmth and weight that only base metal aged to a deep antique finish can hold. The form follows the classical passa silhouette: a central ornamental plaque, likely worked in a floral or geometric jali pattern, with pendant drops that sway with the wearer's movement. At forty-eight grams, it has the satisfying presence of something made to be felt, not merely seen. Brass, long favoured in the workshops of Rajasthan and Bengal for devotional and bridal accessories, develops its own patina over time, becoming more particular to its wearer with every use. Wear this passa with a silk organza dupatta at a mehendi, where its amber-toned finish echoes haldi and marigold. It also pairs beautifully with an ivory cotton kurta for a heritage-influenced daytime gathering, where it reads as considered rather than ornate. The piece is free size, designed to be secured and adjusted against the hair, and requires no resizing. The brass construction makes it resilient for regular wear, needing only a soft cloth to restore its glow. At forty-eight grams, the weight is distributed evenly, resting comfortably without strain across the temple.
