Description

There are silhouettes that belong to a particular latitude of light. The Passa is a side-headpiece rooted in the courtly jewellery vocabulary of Mughal and Rajput ateliers, worn at the temple and trailing toward the parting of the hair. This interpretation is worked in brass, a metal long favoured by craftsmen in Rajasthan and Bengal for its warm, amber-toned surface that accepts intricate surface work with the same generosity as gold. At fifty-four grams, the piece carries presence without heaviness: enough weight to settle correctly against the hair and drape with intention. The form follows the classic passar silhouette, a central pendant medallion from which a chain extends to anchor into a plait or pin, the whole finished in a burnished antique tone that reads as old gold in candlelight and morning sun alike. Worn at a full bridal mehendi, it lifts a heavily embroidered lehenga into something deliberately archaic and considered. Paired with a handwoven Benarasi dupatta and a minimal nath, it allows the passa itself to read as the single deliberate gesture of adornment. The piece is free size, designed to be pinned or woven into the hair without adjustment to the wearer's head. The brass construction is sturdy rather than delicate, suited to a full ceremonial day. The antique finish resists the flat shininess of plated metals and improves, subtly, with wear and careful storage away from moisture.
