Description

The forehead, in Indian bridal tradition, is the seat of grace; this matha patti honours that belief with uncommon deliberateness. Spanning a generous twenty inches (approximately fifty-one centimetres) in width, the piece is built on a brass base worked in the Kundan tradition, where flat-set stones are pressed into their bezels by a setter who understands that tension alone must hold each gem in place. The central teardrop maang tikka anchors the composition, its pendant weight falling precisely at the hairline in the manner of Rajasthani court ornament. Radiating from this focal point, multiple strands of pearls cascade in measured falls, each strand graduating in rhythm so that the overall length of nine and a quarter inches (approximately twenty-three and a half centimetres) drapes with controlled movement rather than theatrical excess. The brass carries a warm, slightly antiqued undertone beneath its Kundan-set stones, lending the piece a richness that reads as heirloom even before the pearls add their particular lustre. The combined weight of fifty grams ensures presence without fatigue across a long ceremonial day. Pair it over a heavy silk Benarasi lehenga in deep red or ivory for a wedding morning, or let it lead a simpler tissue-silk saree into full bridal register at a reception. Free-sized and secured with adjustable fastenings, the matha patti accommodates most head sizes comfortably. The brass base is robust enough to travel, and the Kundan-set stones, held without adhesive, are the more secure for it.
