Description

There are maang tikkas that ornament the hair, and there are those that complete a face. This piece belongs to the second kind. Worked in brass and finished in the idiom of Jaipur's most beloved tradition, it brings together Polki-set stones and vivid Meenakari enamel within a central medallion whose geometry is at once precise and warm. The stones are set in the flat, uncut manner that Polki demands, catching light without flash, offering instead a quiet, candlelit glow. Around them, the enamel field is worked in the colours of the two variants: a deep, confident pink and a cool, restrained white, each bordered by the fine brass filigree that the Meenakari craft uses to contain colour as a riverbank contains water. From the medallion falls a beaded drop, unhurried and graceful, swaying with the smallest movement of the head. Wear the pink variant with a coral and ivory Banarasi dupatta at a summer wedding, where its warmth reads as festive without straining. The white variant pairs beautifully with ivory Chikankari or a pale silk sari at a daytime ceremony, lending the look a refined restraint. The tikka measures approximately 17.9 cm in length by 4.8 cm in width, and at 25 grams it sits comfortably through several hours of wear. The free-size chain allows the central piece to be positioned precisely at the hairline. The brass base gives the setting its firmness, resisting the flex that lighter alloys cannot.
