Description

There is a particular kind of adornment that does not ask for attention; it simply commands it. This maang tikka carries the quiet authority of Kundan work at its most considered. A slender chain, styled for the central parting, suspends a composition of marquise-cut stones set in the Kundan manner, each faceted piece pressed into polished brass and held firm by fine gold-toned foil that throws light upward toward the brow. The pendant body, measuring approximately 13.2 cm in height and 3.3 cm in width (5.2 x 1.3 inches), is finished in a deep sapphire blue, the stones chosen for their colour saturation rather than spectacle. A beaded drop hangs from the lower edge, lending the piece a gentle movement at the forehead. At 20 grams, the brass base keeps the construction light without sacrificing presence. This tradition of setting coloured stones against a foil-backed brass ground draws from the Jaipur school of costume jewellery, where artisans have long translated the vocabulary of Jadau and fine Kundan into pieces accessible beyond the bridal vault. Wear it with a cobalt or ivory silk kurta for a festive afternoon, or let it anchor a raw-silk saree blouse at a mehendi or sangeet gathering where formality and joy meet in equal measure. The free-size chain adjusts easily to most partings, and the brass construction resists everyday tarnish with minimal care. A soft dry cloth after each wear will keep the blue stones vivid through many seasons.
