Description

There are maang tikkas that ornament the forehead, and then there are those that seem to remember it. Centred on the parting and falling gently to the brow, this piece follows the classical pendant-and-chain silhouette that has anchored bridal and festive dressing across northern and western India for generations. Cast in brass and finished in a warm gold tone, it carries the heft of intention: at fourteen grams, it sits with quiet authority rather than restless lightness. The central motif reads as a floriated medallion, a form rooted in the Rajasthani tradition of surface ornamentation where every petal and arc is a considered gesture. Brass, long the democratic cousin of gold in Indian craft, takes to gilded finishes with surprising generosity, holding warmth and lustre through repeated wear. The stone setting, set in the characteristic closed-back style of costume jewellery, frames the centrepiece with colour that reads as confident from a distance. Wear it pinned into a silk dupatta draped over a bridal lehenga for a mehendi or sangeet, where its gold warmth will read beautifully against deep reds and greens. It pairs equally well with a handwoven Banarasi sari at a festival or family celebration, anchoring the look with traditional intent. This piece is free size, as a maang tikka naturally should be, adjusting to placement rather than measurement. The brass construction makes it a resilient everyday companion for festive dressing, resistant to the minor knocks that precious metals quietly dread.
