Description

Where the swan rests among leaves, a whole season of festivity begins. Crafted in brass and finished to a warm antique gold tone, this facelet necklace takes its central motif from the paired imagery of swans and unfurling leaves, a vocabulary shared by temple jewellery traditions across South India and the ornamental workshops of Rajasthan. The piece spans five point two inches (approximately thirteen point two centimetres) in width and stands two point two inches (approximately five point six centimetres) in height, giving it the presence of a statement collarpiece without the weight of fine metal. At thirty grams, the brass body keeps the necklace wearable through a long day of ceremony. The swan motifs are rendered in relief, framed by layered leaf forms that echo the padakam and patti structures familiar to those who know Nagercoil or Jaipur craft. The finish, warm and matte-golden, sits close to the skin in the manner of traditional chokers designed to ornament the décolletage rather than hang loosely. For a silk Kanjivaram or a woven Banarasi worn to a wedding reception, this necklace provides exactly the right ceremonial register. It pairs equally well with an embroidered anarkali or a festive Bengali tant sari for a more relaxed but still considered occasion. The free-size design accommodates most adult necklines comfortably. Brass, properly cared for and kept from moisture, holds its finish well. A soft dry cloth is all the maintenance this piece asks of its wearer.
