Description

There are forehead pieces, and then there are the ones that make a bride feel crowned before the crown arrives. This matha patti is worked in the Kundan tradition, where a base of brass is layered with a lac foundation and flat-faceted stones are pressed into each cell by hand, held in place by refined gold-toned foil rather than prongs. The result is a setting that catches light from every angle without flash or aggression. Running along both borders, a disciplined row of red and white beads introduces the colour language of a North Indian bridal trousseau: red for auspiciousness, white for balance. The piece measures 10.5 inches (approximately 26.7 cm) in length and 0.8 inches (approximately 2 cm) in width, fitting the span of the forehead with quiet authority. At 33 grams, it rests without burden. For the wedding day itself, let it anchor a heavy Benarasi or Kanjeevaram with a matching red border, the bead colours echoing the zari. It works equally well at an intimate mehendi, paired with an embroidered lehenga in ivory or blush where the white beads carry the lightness of the occasion. The piece is offered in red and white colourways and is free size, with the hook-and-chain closure adjustable across most hairlines. The brass base is finished to resist tarnish through everyday bridal wear, making it as practical as it is poetic.
