Description

Worn at the crown of the parting, a maang tikka has always marked the threshold between the ordinary and the auspicious. This piece is worked in the Kundan tradition, a discipline refined over centuries in the ateliers of Jaipur, where thin sheets of pure gold foil were pressed around uncut stones to hold them without prongs or claws. Here, the setting is rendered in brass, polished to a warm, antique-golden tone, and the central motif follows the classic pendant-drop silhouette: a flat, floriated disc rimmed with Kundan-set stones, suspending a teardrop jhumki below. The coloured stones, available in deep forest green or rich crimson red, catch light the way old palace interiors do, with depth rather than glitter. The chain threading through the hair is fine and adjustable, designed to sit cleanly along the centre parting without snagging. The whole piece weighs a comfortable 20 grams, light enough to wear through a long ceremony without fatigue. Pair it with a silk Benarasi sari in ivory or ochre for a wedding function, where the green variant will echo the emerald tones traditional to bridal Kundan sets. For a more relaxed festive occasion, the red stone version sits beautifully against a chanderi kurta or embroidered anarkali. The brass base is finished to resist tarnishing under normal wear. One free size fits all, as the chain adjusts easily. Store away from humidity and direct sunlight to preserve the Kundan foilwork.
