Description

There are maang tikkas that simply sit upon the parting; this one commands it. Rooted in the Kundan tradition that reached its fullest expression in the ateliers of Jaipur, this piece is built around the ancient art of setting uncut stones within a bed of refined gold foil pressed flush against the metal base. Here, the base is brass, worked to receive the characteristic flat-faced Kundan inlays that catch diffused light with quiet authority rather than flashy brilliance. The central motif follows the medallion form beloved by Mughal-era craftsmen, radiating outward in concentric layers of set stones and polished metal, suspended from a fine adjustable chain that rests along the hair parting. At eighteen grams, the tikka carries perceptible weight, the kind that reminds the wearer it is there without becoming a burden across an afternoon or an evening. Pair it with a silk chanderi kurta in ivory or pale gold for a festive afternoon occasion, letting the brass warm against the fabric's sheen. For a wedding function, layer it beneath a heavily worked dupatta so only the medallion face is visible, framing the forehead with restrained ceremony. The free-size chain adjusts to suit different hair partings and head sizes without requiring alteration. The brass construction lends durability for regular wear, and the Kundan setting, once pressed, holds its stones securely through careful storage away from moisture and perfume.
