Description

There are maang tikkas that ornament the forehead, and there are those that quietly complete a woman. This Kundan maang tikka belongs to a tradition of court jewellery that flourished in the ateliers of Rajasthan, where skilled karigars learned to press uncut glass or stone into a bed of lac and fold fine gold foil around each piece to hold it without prongs. Here, that same patient geometry is rendered in brass, a metal long favoured for its warm, gold-like lustre and its ability to carry Kundan settings with surprising fidelity. The central motif reads as a floral medallion, its face studded with close-set Kundan work that catches light with a flat, regal glow. At roughly 6.9 cm tall and 2.8 cm wide, the pendant sits with just enough presence to anchor the centre parting without overwhelming a fine face. The piece weighs 14 grams, substantial enough to drape with confidence. Wear it with a silk tissue saree for a festive evening, or pin it into a loose low bun at a mehendi and let the chain follow the parting in the old-fashioned way. It works with equal ease above the embroidered collar of an anarkali or beneath the pallu of a Benarasi. The tikka is free size, the chain adjustable at the maang pin. The brass base is finished to resist tarnish under everyday wear, making this a piece that travels well from trousseau to occasion drawer without anxiety.
