Description

A kalangi, worn at the crown, was always the mark of a moment that mattered. This piece takes that majestic aigrette form and translates it into a necklace, bringing the sweeping plume-shaped motif down to the collarbone where it can be read in full. Cast in brass and finished to a warm antique tone, the kalangi silhouette fans outward from a central spine, each frond set with stones in two colour offerings: a deep botanical green and a cool, clean white. The setting style follows the closed-back tradition common to Rajasthani craft centres, where stones are nestled firmly into their collets to catch light from a single angle. At 22 grams, the piece has the honest weight of considered metalwork without feeling laboured at the throat. The brass ground, rather than being hidden, is treated as part of the design, its warmth reading through every open space in the frame. Wear the green colourway with a handwoven tussar sari in ochre or ivory for a festival dinner where craft recognition matters. The white reads beautifully against a raw silk blouse at a winter wedding, particularly under low, golden lighting. Free-sized with a standard necklace closure, it sits comfortably against the collarbone and requires no alteration. Brass is resilient in daily handling; a soft cloth is all it needs to restore its quiet lustre after wear.
