Description
There are mornings when a single ornament says everything a whole set cannot. This maang tikka opens in a floral sunburst, its petals radiating outward from a dense Kundan-set centre in the manner of Rajasthani court jewellery, where gold-foil-backed uncut stones were pressed into wax to hold their luminosity without the harshness of claws or prongs. Here, the tradition is interpreted in polished brass, warm and receptive to the eye, its surface carrying the characteristic glow that makes brass a longstanding ground for Kundan work in more accessible registers of the craft. A deep red stone anchors the centre, pulling the sunburst inward, and a bead drop descends from the base with the unhurried weight of something considered. At five inches in length and one point two inches across (approximately twelve point seven centimetres by three centimetres), it sits at the hairline with quiet presence rather than spectacle. Wear it parted into a silk chanderi saree in ivory or pale gold for a mehendi or sangeet, where the red catches candlelight beautifully. It pairs equally well over a deep wine or indigo anarkali, the brass warming against darker ground. The piece weighs seventeen grams, substantial enough to feel significant but light enough for a full evening's wear. The free-size chain adjusts to most partings, and the brass finish requires no special care beyond keeping it away from moisture and perfume.
