Description

Worn at the crown, a mathapatti speaks before the bride does. This floral-motif mathapatti belongs to the grand tradition of bridal head jewellery that has long anchored the dressed silhouette from forehead to parting. Each bloom is set with uncut Polki stones, their raw, mirror-flat faces catching light the way old jewellery always did: without apology. The setting follows the centuries-old tradition of foil-backed Polki work, where the silver or gold-toned foil beneath each stone amplifies its natural luminescence. Worked in brass, the piece carries the warm, slightly antique tone that Indian bridal aesthetics have always favoured over a colder gleam. At roughly 26.7 cm in length and weighing 45 grams, the piece has genuine presence without becoming burdensome across the scalp. The floral repeat, precise and unhurried, speaks of karigar hands that understand symmetry as a form of devotion. Wear it over a silk Banarasi or a tissue-zari lehenga in ivory or deep red, where the warm brass and Polki catch the wedding mandap light. It reads equally well against a traditional Kanjeevaram draped for a reception or a sangeet, where the forehead ornament becomes the centrepiece of the entire look. This is a free-size piece designed to sit comfortably across standard hairlines. The brass base ensures lightness relative to its visual scale, and the construction is sturdy enough to travel and be worn through long ceremonial hours without losing its form.
