Description

There is a particular kind of beauty that belongs to the threshold of celebration, and this maang tikka carries it quietly. Shaped as a crescent cradling a full floral cluster, this piece draws from a vocabulary of ornament that has dressed Indian women for centuries. The brass base, finished to a warm, softened lustre, holds a careful arrangement of white stones set in raised mounts, each catching light with the restrained brilliance of costume Kundan-style setting. From the lower arc of the crescent, a row of pearl drops falls in gentle succession, lending the piece its characteristic movement. At four inches in height and two and a half inches in width (approximately ten centimetres by six and a half centimetres), the proportions are generous without being theatrical. The total weight of thirty grams sits comfortably at the hairline, substantial enough to announce itself, light enough to wear through an evening. Pair it with an ivory silk saree and gold-toned chandbaalis for a wedding guest ensemble that is composed and quietly confident. For a mehendi or haldi afternoon, it reads equally well with a yellow or mustard anarkali, the white stones lending cool contrast to warm, festive colour. The piece is offered in white and comes as a free size, suited to standard maang tikka placement with a simple hook closure at the parting. The brass construction requires only gentle handling and occasional dry polishing to maintain its finish across many seasons of wearing.
