Description

The jada billa has long been the quiet crown of a bridal hairline, and this one carries that legacy in sterling silver. Fashioned from hallmarked sterling silver, the brooch is worked into a layered medallion silhouette, its surface textured with fine filigree-like detailing that catches light without demanding it. At the centre sits a single green stone, set flush within a collet that keeps the colour contained and precise. The surround builds outward in graduated petals or foliate tiers, a form closely associated with the hair ornament tradition of South India, particularly the temple-jewellery workshops of Nagercoil and Kanchipuram, where the jada billa once adorned classical dancers and brides in equal measure. At 17 grams, the piece has genuine weight and presence; the silver has been finished to a soft, burnished tone rather than a hard mirror polish, lending it an antique warmth that reads as heirloom rather than imitation. Wear it pinned at the crown of a neat bun for a Bharatanatyam recital or a silk-saree wedding reception. It sits equally well on a French twist paired with a Kanjeevaram or a hand-woven Banarasi, where the silver and green echo the zari and woven border. The brooch measures approximately 4.6 cm in height and 3.6 cm in width, making it substantial without overwhelming a dressed hairstyle. The pin fastening at the back is sturdy, and the free-size format means it fits any bun or chignon regardless of hair density.
