Description

The forehead is the first place a bride is adorned, and the last place ornament is ever forgotten. This bridal mathapatti draws from the Kundan tradition of Rajasthan, where flat-foiled stones are pressed into a gold-toned brass framework by hands that have set such pieces for generations. The main chain, measuring thirty centimetres in length, traces a line from temple to temple across the hairline, its links punctuated by floral and paisley Kundan-set medallions in cool whites and greens. At the centre, the maang tikka drops to thirteen centimetres in height and just over three centimetres in width, its pendant a layered bloom of set stones weighted enough to rest still against the parting. The whole piece, forty-six grams in total, sits with quiet authority rather than restless movement. Brass, finished here with a warm gilded tone, gives the Kundan foiling the stable, reflective bed it requires. Wear this with a red or ivory silk lehenga for the wedding ceremony, where the mathapatti aligns with the maang sindoor and anchors the entire bridal composition. It works equally well with a heavily embroidered anarkali for a sangeet, where the piece carries the evening without competing with statement earrings. The free-size design adjusts to most head circumferences through its adjustable chain ends. At forty-six grams, the weight is bridal in intention but balanced in distribution, making hours of wear manageable. The brass base resists bending, and the Kundan-set stones are secured in closed bezels for durability.
