the story,

Behind this piece

Kani weaving takes its name from the small, spool-like needles, called kanis, that Kashmiri weavers once used to interlace intricate motifs without a shuttle. Jamawar, meaning "body of the robe" in Persian, denotes the dense, all-over patterning that made these textiles prized across Mughal courts. This three-piece fabric brings that grammar of vines and paisleys to Amritsar's looms, where the tradition has long been adapted for wider reach. Zari-woven vines run through the composition, catching light at the hem and yoke. The polycotton ground makes this heritage vocabulary wearable across seasons.

to wear it,

How to style

In Beveled Glass or Sailor Blue, pair the stitched kurta with wide-leg ivory palazzo trousers for a heritage-inflected lunch or cultural event; add silver jhumkas and kolhapuri flats to keep the mood grounded. For Very Berry, choose the three-piece set for a festive family gathering, finishing with antique gold chaandbalis and block-heeled mojaris. Black Onyx suits an evening diwan or literary soiree: wear it with a sheer churidar, a fine Pashmina stole in ecru, and oxidised silver rings for an aesthetic that is composed rather than ornamental.

to last,

Fabric & care

Polycotton retains its shape well but the zari threads require vigilance. Hand-wash in cool water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent; never wring the fabric, as this distorts the woven vine pattern. Dry flat in shade to prevent the zari from oxidising prematurely. Iron on a medium setting with a pressing cloth placed over the zari borders. Store folded in a cotton muslin bag rather than plastic, which traps humidity. Avoid prolonged contact with perfume or deodorant, as alcohol-based sprays can dull metallic threads over time.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
