Our story
It began, as most Indian stories do, over a cup of chai — and a quiet ache.
Somewhere in the late 1990s, before the world had shrunk into a browser window, a small group of us kept noticing the same thing: India's deepest treasures — a Banarasi saree finished with a whisper of zari, a bronze cast by a family that had been casting bronze for four hundred years, a book that only two libraries in the world still stocked — were disappearing, not because the artisans had lost their skill, but because the world had lost its patience.
Exotic India was born in 1998, in a small room with a slow modem, from a simple promise: we will bring India to the world, gently, and without letting go of her hand.
A love letter, sent in packages.
For nearly three decades, we have hand-picked from every corner of this vast country — sculptures from Swamimalai, sarees from Kanchipuram, thangkas from Dharamsala, chikankari from Lucknow, block-printed cottons from Kutch. Every piece is chosen by a human being, not a spreadsheet. Every parcel is wrapped by a person who knows what it is to send something you love halfway around the world.
Today, we have shipped to 161 of the 195 countries in this world — Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, and every place in between. And still, the promise remains the same: to make India's famed arts, crafts, and spiritual depth accessible to all, at fair prices, without a single thread taken from those who wove them.
Fair trade, upfront and always.
We pay every artisan, designer, and artist we work with upfront, and at rates far above market. We refuse — completely and without exception — to work with anyone who uses child labour. When you buy a piece from us, the money reaches the hands that made it long before the parcel reaches yours.
A portion of our profits goes back to the country that inspires us, through charities we hold dear: Ekal Vidyalaya, Apna Ghar Ashram, ISKCON, Natural Lifestyle Trust, Shree Agrasain International Hospital, Peace Only Charitable Trust, and the Maharaja Agrasain Agarwal Ashram Trust at Haridwar and Vrindavan.

What we curate for you is a small letter from that vast, beautiful place — sculptures, jewellery, paintings, books, textiles, home decor, all sourced with the belief that beauty this old deserves hands this careful.
