the story,

Behind this piece

Bandhani is among Gujarat's oldest living textile traditions, practised for centuries by the Khatri community across Kutch and Jamnagar. The craft begins with tiny pinches of cloth bound tightly with thread before the fabric is submerged in natural or vegetable dyes. When the threads are released, a constellation of resist-dyed dots emerges, each one a mark of hand and patience. Here, that heritage meets a woven Rudraksha border, its repeating sacred motif drawn from temple iconography. The pairing of tie-dye field and loom-crafted border is distinctly Gujarati in its sensibility: devotional, joyful, and precise.

to wear it,

How to style

The Orange and Pink colourway is made for a morning puja gathering or a festive mehendi; wear it with oxidised silver jhumkas and Kolhapuri chappals in tan leather. The Pink and Green reads freshly at an afternoon family lunch, balanced with a single gold bangle and flat mojaris in ivory. For the Purple and Green, lean into its richer depth at an evening cultural event: layer a light antique-gold necklace, choose closed-toe block-heeled sandals in nude, and let the Rudraksha-bordered dupatta drape loosely over one shoulder for quiet drama.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure cotton Bandhani demands gentle handling to protect its resist-dyed dots from bleeding or flattening. Hand wash separately in cool water with a mild, colour-safe detergent, and avoid soaking beyond five minutes. Do not wring; press the water out gently and dry in shade away from direct sunlight, which fades tie-dye over time. Iron on a medium-cotton setting while slightly damp, turning inside out to protect the surface. Store folded loosely in a cotton muslin bag rather than compressed in a plastic cover, allowing the fabric to breathe and retain its natural softness across many seasons.
