the story,

Behind this piece

Bandhani is among the oldest resist-dyeing traditions of the Indian subcontinent, rooted in the arid brilliance of Kutch and Jaipur. In Gujarat, it is practised by the Khatri community, whose fingers tie thousands of minute knots into cloth before the dye bath reveals its constellation of dots. This set carries that lineage into art silk, where the technique's characteristic pinched circles bloom across grounds of Orangeade, Pink Peacock, and Spectra Green. The zari border, woven in metallic thread, frames each length with the kind of quiet formality that Gujarati festive dressing has always understood instinctively.

to wear it,

How to style

Style the Orangeade colourway with ivory palazzo trousers and block-printed mojris for a Navratri gathering that reads considered rather than costumed. The Pink Peacock piece suits a daytime mehendi when worn over churidar with polki jhumkas and a single gold bangle. Spectra Green, the most versatile of the three, pairs beautifully with straight-cut cigarette pants and kolhapuri sandals for a festive lunch or courthouse wedding. Across all colourways, keep the neck uncluttered: the bandhani dot-work is ornament enough, and a simple chain finishes without competing.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk demands gentle handling to preserve its lustre and the integrity of the tie-dye dots. Hand-wash in cold water using a mild, colour-safe detergent, and never wring or twist the fabric. Rinse thoroughly, then press between two dry towels to remove excess moisture. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can fade the vibrant Bandhani grounds. Iron on a low setting, using a pressing cloth to protect the zari border from heat damage. Store folded in a breathable muslin bag, away from humidity, to prevent the metallic threads from tarnishing over time.
