about the piece,

Description

There is a particular green that belongs to early summer, to the first beetle that catches the light and holds it. This Anarkali suit is rendered in fluid georgette, a fabric long favoured by ateliers of Lucknow and Delhi for its capacity to move with the wearer rather than against her. The silhouette follows the Anarkali tradition, that elegant court-born form characterised by a fitted bodice releasing into sweeping lower panels, here interpreted with the considered restraint of contemporary design. Embellishment is applied with deliberation, each decorative element serving the whole rather than competing with it. The deep june-bug hue, lustrous and complex, shifts between green and iridescent depth depending on the quality of light around it. Available in an unstitched option for those who prefer the garment shaped precisely to their own proportions, or in standard sizes for a more immediate occasion. Pair with gold jhumkas and a sheer dupatta worn loosely across one shoulder, allowing the georgette to fall as it wishes.

the story,

Behind this piece

Georgette, named after the early twentieth-century French couturière Georgette de la Plante, arrived in India through trade routes and was swiftly claimed by Varanasi's master weavers, who folded its crêpe-woven texture into the vocabulary of celebration. The fabric's defining characteristic, a slight grainy resistance born from its tightly twisted yarns, lends the Anarkali silhouette an almost animate quality: the flared panels catch air, hold dye with unusual depth, and drape with a considered looseness. This designer interpretation honours that legacy, presenting the garment's natural fall without interference from stiffening or synthetic finishing treatments.

to wear it,

How to style

For a festive evening, pair this Anarkali with a narrow churidar in a tonal shade and kolhapuri block-heeled sandals in tan leather. The fluid silhouette suits a Kundan polki choker worn high against the throat. For a daytime wedding function, layer a fine silk dupatta in ivory over one shoulder and choose Juttis with mirror-work embroidery. For a cultural gathering or literary evening, anchor the look with simple oxidised silver jhumkas from Rajasthan's Jodhpur silversmiths, leaving the flared hem to speak for itself with minimal ornamentation below the waist.

to last,

Fabric & care

Georgette is a delicate crêpe weave requiring careful handling to preserve its characteristic texture. Wash gently in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent formulated for silk-like synthetics, turning the garment inside out first. Never wring or twist the fabric. Roll it in a clean cotton towel to remove excess moisture, then hang on a padded hanger away from direct sunlight, which degrades both fibre and dye. Iron on a low setting through a pressing cloth when slightly damp. Store folded in breathable muslin, never plastic, to prevent moisture retention and fabric distortion over time.
