the story,

Behind this piece

Chanderi, a small town in Madhya Pradesh, has been weaving its luminous cotton-silk cloth since at least the fifteenth century, when it supplied fabric to the Mughal court. The textile carries an inherent translucency, born from the marriage of cotton warp and silk weft, that no heavier cloth can replicate. Onto this delicate ground, artisans from the block-printing tradition have pressed cordovan, a deep brownish-red drawn from centuries of dye knowledge, building the repeat pattern by hand, block by careful block, each impression a small act of devotion to a very old discipline.

to wear it,

How to style

For a daytime festivity, wear this suit with antique gold jhumkas and pointed kolhapuris in tan leather. The cordovan print reads beautifully against ivory or champagne dupattas if you choose to layer one. For an evening gathering, pair with oxidised silver chaandbalis and heeled nagra shoes in bronze. On a working day where occasion demands quiet elegance, keep jewellery to a single thin gold chain and carry a structured potli in cognac. The cotton-silk weight breathes through long hours without losing its composed drape, making it genuinely versatile across seasons.

to last,

Fabric & care

Chanderi cotton-silk is a considered cloth and rewards careful handling. Wash by hand in cool water using a very mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping agitation gentle to protect both the weave structure and the block-printed surface. Do not wring; press the water out softly between your palms, then roll the garment briefly in a clean cotton towel. Dry flat in shade, never in direct sun, which fades block-printed pigments over time. Iron on a low silk setting while slightly damp. Store folded in muslin or soft cotton, away from synthetic bags that trap moisture and distort the fibre.
