Description

There are pendants that ask to be noticed, and then there are pendants that simply are. This sterling silver pendant draws from a tradition of inlaid stonework that has long flourished across Rajasthan and the older jewellery quarters of Delhi, where silversmiths compose with colour the way a miniature painter composes with pigment. At its centre sits a domed turquoise cabochon, its sky-blue matrix ringed by accents of deep coral and lapis lazuli, the three stones chosen not for flash but for the quiet conversation they hold together. The setting is compact and deliberate: the silver frame follows the natural contour of the stones, worked into a form that measures 1.7 inches (approximately 4.3 cm) in height and 1 inch (approximately 2.5 cm) in width, and weighs a considered 10 grams. The finish is matte-burnished sterling, neither oxidised into drama nor polished into anonymity. Worn against a cream chanderi kurta with a single row of freshwater pearls, it holds its own without competing. Equally, it settles beautifully at the neckline of a block-printed cotton dress at a gallery opening or a quiet festive lunch. The pendant is free-sized and hangs from a bale suited to chains of standard thickness. At 10 grams it carries gentle presence without weight, making it comfortable for hours of wear. Sterling silver of this gauge resists daily knocks well, needing only an occasional soft-cloth buff to stay true.
