Description

There are silences in silver that only a filigree master knows how to fill. This pendant belongs to a tradition of wire-work jewellery that has long been practised along the eastern and coastal belts of India, where silversmiths draw sterling silver into threads finer than breath and coax them into latticed gardens. Here, the technique frames a twin bird motif, two figures posed in quiet symmetry, their bodies built from interlaced silver wire rather than solid sheet. The turquoise inlay sits at the heart of the composition, its mineral blue a considered counterpoint to the cool grey of the sterling silver ground. At three inches in height and one and three-quarter inches in width (approximately 7.6 cm by 4.4 cm), the pendant has genuine presence without tipping into theatre. Weighing thirty-three grams, the piece carries a satisfying substantiality, the kind that reminds you something real was made by hand. Wear it against a cream or ivory chanderi kurta for a festive lunch, where the turquoise will catch the afternoon light without competing with the fabric. Equally, it settles beautifully over a fine-knit merino or silk blouse for a formal evening, the filigree acting as its own ornament. The pendant is offered in free size, meaning the focus is entirely on the drop itself. Sterling silver of this gauge develops a gentle patina over time; a soft cloth brings the brightness back whenever you want it.
