Description

A peacock rendered in silver lace, as though the bird itself had agreed to be still long enough to become jewellery. Filigree is among the most patient of India's silversmithing traditions, its finest expression found in the ateliers of Cuttack and the quieter workshops of Karimnagar, where wire is drawn impossibly thin, coiled, soldered and built into forms that feel more like air than metal. Here, that discipline shapes a peacock in full display: the tail fanning outward to a width of two inches (approximately five centimetres), the body rising to a height of two and a quarter inches (approximately five and a half centimetres). At its heart, a piece of red coral sits set against the sterling silver ground, its warmth anchoring the tracery. A row of dangling beads along the lower edge moves with the wearer, catching light in the manner of temple jewellery from the southern coastal tradition. The piece weighs thirty grams, substantial enough to hold its shape through daily movement without pulling heavily at the neck. Wear it over a cream Chanderi kurta with a single gold bangle for understated occasion dressing, or let it become the focal point of a hand-embroidered blouse at a winter mehendi, where its silver and coral will read beautifully against deep jewel tones. The sterling silver construction ensures resistance to tarnish with simple care. The free-size pendant suits most chain weights and lengths, and its secure bail makes pairing straightforward with existing chains in your collection.
