Description
The nine celestial sovereigns, rendered in silver, carry the weight of an entire cosmology against your collarbone. Rooted in the devotional silverwork traditions of South India, where temple jewellery has long served as an offering made wearable, this pendant brings the Navagraha mandala into sculptural relief. Each of the nine planetary deities occupies its ordained position within the composition, the figures rendered with the fine surface engraving and oxidised antiquing that give antique-finish silver its characteristic depth: shadows pooling in recessed detail, high points catching light with restrained warmth. Worked in sterling silver and weighing 21 grams, the piece measures approximately 5.2 centimetres in height by 4.3 centimetres in width, a presence that is substantial without being imposing. The antiquing process is hand-finished, ensuring no two pieces emerge from the workshop identically. Wear it on a fine silver chain against a raw silk kurta in ivory or saffron for a puja morning that moves into the rest of the day without self-consciousness. For a more considered occasion, layer it over a Kanjivaram silk blouse at a naming ceremony or a homecoming, where its cosmological symbolism will not be lost on those who recognise it. The pendant is free-sized and works with any chain of standard gauge. The oxidised finish holds well against daily contact; a soft cloth restores its tone when needed. At just over two inches in height, it sits at an ideal mid-chest length.
