Description

There is something quietly sacred about a cross rendered in silver and stone. The cross has been worn as an amulet of faith across South Asian Christian communities, from the silver-working parishes of Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu to the colonial-era jewellers of Bengal, and this pendant carries that quiet devotion into contemporary wear. Cast in sterling silver, the form is slender and architectural, measuring nearly five centimetres tall and just under two centimetres wide (4.95 cm height by 1.78 cm width), with a weight of eight grams that gives it honest, reassuring substance. Set at its centre is a piece of turquoise, a stone long prized across Indian jewellery traditions for its chalky blue-green opacity and its association with protection. The silver itself carries a brushed or oxidised finish that gives the metal warmth and age, allowing the turquoise to read as a calm accent rather than an ornament competing for attention. Wear it on a fine sterling chain against a white Chanderi kurta for a Sunday service or a quiet family gathering. It is equally at home over a linen shirt or a navy blazer, a piece that crosses the boundary between devotional and everyday with ease. At free size and just eight grams, the pendant sits comfortably at the collarbone or sternum depending on chain length. Sterling silver is durable enough for daily wear; a gentle polish with a dry cloth will maintain its quiet lustre across years of use.
