Description

There are icons, and then there are icons that hold three worlds at once. The Trimukhi form of Ganesha, showing the Vighnaharta across three faces, is among the most devotionally potent expressions in Hindu iconography. Here, rendered entirely in sterling silver, the motif carries the weight of a tradition that runs deep through the silversmith workshops of Rajasthan and Bengal, where craftsmen have long shaped the divine into wearable talismans. Sterling silver, with its cool lustre and quiet authority, is the right metal for this subject: it neither competes with the sacred geometry nor diminishes it. The pendant stands at one and a quarter inches tall (approximately 3.2 cm) and weighs 5.2 grams, a presence that is felt without being burdensome. The surface work, following the line of each face and crown, speaks to hands trained in repoussé and fine chasing, coaxing relief and shadow from a single sheet of silver. Worn on a silver box chain, this pendant settles beautifully against a cream or ivory kurta for morning prayer and into daily wear with the same ease. It pairs equally well over a simple white shirt, carrying its quiet devotion into secular hours without effort. The free-size bail accommodates chains of varying thickness. The sterling silver construction is resistant to tarnish with routine care, and the compact weight of under six grams means this is a piece one reaches for daily, not only on ceremonial occasions.
