Description

There are trees that carry entire cosmologies in their branches. The Tree of Life is one of the oldest symbols woven into the subcontinent's decorative imagination, appearing in temple friezes, Madhubani paintings, and the textile borders of Kutch. Here, Jaipur's wire-working tradition brings it into three dimensions: bare brass wire, coiled and twisted by hand, forms roots, trunk, and spreading canopy in a single unbroken composition. At the heart of the tree, a teal-blue stone sits in a simple bezel, its colour holding the quality of still monsoon water. The pendant measures 5.3 inches in height by 3.5 inches in width (approximately 13.5 cm by 9 cm), and at 145 grams it carries a pleasing, grounded weight. The brass is left with a warm, oxidised tone that lets the wirework read as sculpture rather than ornament. Wear it over a dense-weave cotton kurta in off-white or indigo for a daytime meeting where understatement counts. For evening, layer it against a silk blouse beneath a sheer organza dupatta, letting the canopy's detail catch the light. The free-size bail accommodates a range of chains and cords, from a slim brass chain to a waxed black cord for a more artisanal feel. The wirework construction is robust enough for daily wear, though the teal stone repays a gentle touch. A piece that ages gracefully.
