Description

There are silences in silver that speak louder than ornament. This pendant draws from the high-altitude jewellery traditions that travelled along ancient trade routes between Tibet and the mountain towns of northern India, where silversmiths learned to honour turquoise not as accent but as subject. The stone, a single piece of Tibetan turquoise in its characteristic sky-to-teal gradation, is held within a sterling silver bezel that frames rather than overwhelms, allowing the natural matrix of the stone to remain fully legible. The silver surround is worked with textured detailing consistent with the hand-finishing traditions of Himalayan-influenced craft, giving the surface a warmth that polished silver rarely achieves. At 40 grams, the pendant has genuine presence and weight, measuring 1.65 inches in height by 1.5 inches in width (approximately 4.2 cm by 3.8 cm), proportions that read as considered rather than oversized. Worn on a long oxidised silver chain, it settles beautifully over a handloom cotton kurta in ivory or indigo, the turquoise reading as both antique and alive. For evenings, layer it over a silk blouse in slate or burnt sienna, where the stone's cool temperature plays against warm fabric. The pendant is free-sized in its loop fitting, accommodating chains of varying thicknesses with ease. Sterling silver of this weight wears durably through daily use; a soft cloth brings back its quiet lustre without disturbing the intentional texture of the finish.
