Description

Somewhere between a monastery gate and a mountain sky, this pendant carries the cold, clean air of a tradition older than trade routes. Worked in sterling silver using a filigree technique that echoes the Tibetan metalsmithing heritage, the piece is built from fine twisted and plaited wire, coiled into an intricate latticed frame that breathes rather than smothers. At its heart and borders, cabochon turquoise and coral stones are set flush within bezel cups, the blue-green and rust-red holding their own against the oxidised silver ground. Filigree of this character demands patience: each wire element is shaped and soldered individually before the whole composition is assembled by hand. The result is a pendant that measures approximately 6.6 cm in height and 5.7 cm in width, weighing a substantial 58 grams, with a presence that reads as ceremonial without tipping into costume. Wear it over a plain ivory Chanderi kurta for a winter literary evening, where the silver oxidation and the coral read as warmth against pale cloth. It works equally well with a deep indigo hand-block sari, the turquoise pulling out the blue in the weave. The pendant is free-sized and passes through a standard chain or cord. The bezel settings protect the stones during daily wear, and the oxidised finish resists tarnish gracefully. A soft cloth buff periodically is all this piece asks.
