Description

There are prayers that one carries close to the chest, quieter than breath. This pendant takes its form from the Surangama Mantra, one of Buddhism's most revered dharanis, believed to confer protection upon the wearer. Cast in sterling silver, the piece is worked in the round: a compact cylindrical or prayer-wheel form that encloses or bears the mantra script along its body, finished to a clean, restrained lustre. At its heart sits a single garnet, deep crimson against the cool pewter tone of the silver, set simply so the stone is held rather than overwhelmed. The silhouette is deliberately minimal, measuring just one inch in height by a quarter inch in width (approximately 2.5 cm by 0.6 cm), and weighing a single gram. The Tibetan Buddhist tradition from which this mantra originates understands ornament as devotion; every detail here serves that understanding. Wear it on a fine sterling chain against a cream silk kurta on a quiet morning, letting the garnet catch light without announcement. It reads equally well with a linen shirt and dark trousers for someone who brings contemplative intention to daily dress.
