Description

There is a quietness to water held in silver, and this pendant understands that. Shaped into a slender teardrop just one inch tall and four-tenths of an inch wide (approximately 2.5 cm by 1 cm), the frame is wrought in sterling silver and finished with pavé-set stones that trace the silhouette's edge like frost along a windowpane. At the centre, a single oval opal rests, its surface shifting between cream, soft blue and pale fire depending on the angle of light. Opal has long been valued in Indian jewellery traditions for this quality of interior movement, the sense that something alive is held within the stone. The pavé border, set with small stones in close formation, gives the frame a luminous texture without weight or bulk. At 2.3 grams, the piece is remarkably light, the kind of silver work that disappears against the skin and yet catches every passing light. Wear it on a fine silver chain over a cream silk kurta for an afternoon gathering, or layer it against a collarbone visible above a western blouse. It transitions easily between a festive mehendi afternoon and a quiet work meeting, requiring no adjustment of intent. The free-size bail fits chains both slender and moderately heavy. Sterling silver at this weight wears without pulling and requires only occasional polishing with a soft cloth to restore its brightness between wearings.
