Description

A raindrop caught mid-fall, set in silver that remembers the earth it came from. The teardrop silhouette is among the oldest pendant forms in the subcontract of Indian adornment, and here it arrives in superfine sterling silver, its surface worked to hold two materials in quiet conversation. Sky-blue turquoise, the stone long favoured by Rajasthani and Tibetan craftspeople for its waxy, opaque warmth, sits at the heart of the pendant. Around it, marcasite stones are set in their characteristic close formation, their gunmetal glint giving the silver a vintage, almost Edwardian gravity. Marcasite work in sterling silver carries a distinct Anglo-Indian jewellery history, popular in pieces made for both Indian and European markets through the early twentieth century. The silver here is not gilded or rhodium-plated; it reads as itself, honest and cool. The pendant measures approximately 5.2 cm in height by 1.3 cm in width and weighs 8.17 grams, a considered heft for its slender frame. Wear it on a fine silver chain against an ivory chanderi kurta for a winter gathering, or let it rest at the neckline of a deep-teal silk blouse for a dinner where the occasion calls for restraint rather than abundance. Sized to suit all and finished with a standard bail for most chain gauges, this pendant requires only the occasional polish with a soft cloth to restore its cool, silvery clarity. A practical piece for constant, quiet wear.
