Description

A pendant that carries ten incarnations of the divine within a single frame of sterling silver. The Dashavatara, Vishnu's ten avatars from Matsya to Kalki, has inspired temple craftsmen for centuries, and here each form is rendered with the patience of a silversmith working in the finest tradition of devotional jewellery. Cast and hand-finished in hallmarked sterling silver, the pendant measures approximately 8.7 cm in height by 5.8 cm in width, and at 63 grams it carries genuine weight, the kind that speaks of substance rather than spectacle. The surface is worked to bring each avatar into individual relief, the detailing fine enough to reward close attention. This is silver at its most purposeful, without gilding or coloured stones, relying entirely on the mastery of form and the quality of the metal itself. Worn against a cream or ivory silk kurta, the pendant becomes the only ornament a woman or man needs. For the diaspora collector, it translates beautifully over a white linen shirt at a puja gathering, the silver bright against plain fabric. At 3.42 inches tall, the piece sits as a statement pendant rather than a delicate drop, best worn on a substantial silver chain to honour its proportion. The sterling silver will patinate gently with time and is easily restored with a soft cloth. Free size, as all pendants inherently are, it suits every wearer who chooses it.
