Description

There are prayers that one wears close to the skin, and this is one of them. The Om, rendered here in sterling silver with a presence that is both sacred and sculptural, carries the oldest syllable in the subcontinent's devotional vocabulary. At 1.7 inches tall and 1.4 inches wide (approximately 4.3 cm by 3.6 cm), the pendant occupies exactly the right amount of space on the chest: visible without being theatrical. Nine stones, set in the Navaratna arrangement, populate the form with their traditional sequence of colours, each gem assigned to a planetary guardian according to Vedic convention. The setting is delicate but secure, worked in sterling silver that has been finished to catch light without glare. At 7.25 grams, the piece carries genuine heft, the kind that reminds the wearer it is there without becoming a burden across a long day. Thread it onto a fine black cord for daily prayer and quiet mornings, or suspend it from a slim sterling chain against an ivory Chanderi kurta for a festive lunch where restraint is its own statement. For a wedding guest attending a daytime ceremony, it pairs beautifully with soft silk and unadorned ears. The free-size bail accommodates most chain widths and cords. Sterling silver is susceptible to tarnish with humidity and perfume, so store it separately in a cloth pouch and polish gently with a dry cloth to preserve the surface and the integrity of the stone settings.
