Description

She is not ornament. She is invocation. Mogal Maa, a rare regional form of the goddess venerated across Kutch and parts of Rajasthan, is rendered here in sterling silver with a devotional exactness that borders on portraiture. The pendant is stone studded, coloured stones set flush against the oxidised silver ground, lending the goddess's crown and garments the jewelled weight of a temple idol dressed for festival. The silver itself, worked to a matte-and-burnished finish, catches light the way old temple silverwork does: quietly, without vanity. At 1.8 inches in height (approximately 4.6 cm) and 1.15 inches in width (approximately 2.9 cm), the silhouette is precisely proportioned, neither miniature nor imposing, and at 13 grams the piece sits on the chest with real, grounding presence. This is the grammar of devotional silversmithing, closer to the votive traditions of Kutchi and Rajasthani karigar communities than to anything fashioned for the contemporary market. Wear this pendant on a long black silk cord against a chanderi or tussar dupatta for a festive evening that honours its sacred register. Equally, it companions a plain cotton kurta during Navratri, where its devotional charge needs no other adornment beside it. The free-size setting and standard bail make it compatible with chains of varying gauges. Sterling silver at this weight wears reliably day to day and polishes readily, ensuring that Mogal Maa remains as luminous in daily devotion as she was the moment she left the craftsman's hands.
