Description

Goga Maharaj rides eternal through the silver, his legend pressed into five grams of devotion. Revered across Rajasthan, Haryana and the plains of northern India as the serpent deity and folk protector, Goga Maharaj occupies a singular place in rural devotional art. Here, his image is rendered in sterling silver, worked into a compact portrait pendant measuring one and a quarter inches tall by just under two-thirds of an inch wide (approximately 3.18 cm by 1.65 cm). Tiny stones, set flush against the silver surface, pick out the deity's form with the quiet insistence of folk jewellery rather than courtly ornament. The silverwork belongs to the tradition of devotional pendants made for everyday worship and personal talisman-wearing, pieces whose value is weighted more in spiritual intent than in spectacle. At 5.28 grams, the sterling silver is substantive without being heavy, the finish holding the cool, matte character typical of hand-worked devotional silver. Wear it on a simple black waxed cord knotted close to the collarbone for daily puja mornings, the pendant resting against a plain cotton kurta. For the fairs and pilgrimages held in Gogamedi or at regional melas, it pairs with a mirror-worked odhni, sitting as a quietly personal emblem among the colour. The pendant is free-sized and requires only a cord or chain of the wearer's choice. Sterling silver demands occasional light polishing but rewards consistent wear with a gentle, lived-in patina that deepens its character over time.
