Description

There are devotions that require no temple, only the right adornment worn close to the heart. This brooch renders the eternal pair, Radha and Krishna, in the fluting style beloved of North Indian devotional craft. Krishna stands mid-note, his bansuri raised, while Radha inclines gently beside him, the composition contained within a near-square silhouette measuring 2.8 inches in height and 2.8 inches width (approximately 7.1 cm by 7.1 cm). The base is cast brass, finished to a warm antique tone that recalls the gilt-work of old Rajasthani religious objects. Coloured stones, set in close formation across the figures and their floral surround, catch the light the way inlaid work does on the haveli doors of Bikaner. At 66 grams, it carries a convincing heft without burden. The pin-and-clasp closure at the reverse is sturdy and flat against the body. Wear it pinned to the drape of a silk sari at the shoulder, or at the centre of a kurta's neckline for a festive mehendi or a morning puja gathering. It translates equally well over a structured raw-silk blouse, where the antique brass reads as intentional, not incidental. Free in size, the brooch requires no adjustment and suits any frame. The brass construction is resistant to daily handling, and a soft cloth is sufficient to maintain its lustre. A considered piece for those who carry devotion lightly but wear it with intention.
