Description

There are timepieces, and then there are objects that make time itself feel ceremonial. This Kundan watch necklace belongs to a tradition where the wrist is an afterthought and the throat is the canvas. Set in brass with a meticulous Kundan inlay, flat-polished gemstones are pressed flush into their foiled settings in the manner perfected by Jaipur's goldsmiths, where light is held rather than scattered. The watch face, framed within a jewelled surround, reads as both instrument and ornament, a conceit beloved in the courts of Rajasthan where utility was never permitted to be plain. Available in green and white stone colourways, the piece weighs a considered 43 grams, its dial measuring approximately 4.3 centimetres in length and 5.3 centimetres in width, with a total height of roughly 2.8 centimetres including the lock closure. Wear the green colourway against a silk chanderi kurta in ivory for a literary salon or intimate festive gathering; the white version pairs cleanly with a tissue organza saree for a wedding reception where restraint is its own statement. The lock closure sits firmly and the free-size chain accommodates most necklines without adjustment. Brass, properly set and worn, develops a warm patina over time, and the Kundan foiling beneath each stone keeps its luminosity through careful, dry storage. This is a piece for those who understand that wearing a watch around the neck is, above all, a philosophical choice.
